Reviewing Solar Performance After the First Month

Reviewing Solar Performance After the First Month

The first month is a useful time to review whether the installation and monitoring are behaving as expected. It is an early operating check, not a complete test of annual performance or a guarantee of future results.

Compare against stated assumptions

Review generation alongside weather, operating days and any interruptions. Confirm that the monitoring period matches the period being discussed. If a business changed its working hours, note that change before comparing the electricity bill with an earlier month.

Close outstanding handover questions

Ask the installer to explain unfamiliar readings and any repeated alerts. Check that equipment records, warranty documents and support details have been received. Record questions in one place so the review produces clear follow-up actions rather than a general impression that performance is good or poor.

Review operation against the documented proposal

Keep the first month’s generation report with the handover records and note missing data, outages and significant changes in use. Ask whether the observed pattern is consistent with the expected season and site assumptions. Separate an equipment issue from a difference in consumption or weather. A short initial review is useful for learning the system but should not be presented as proof of annual savings.

Your practical checklist

  • Use matching dates for comparisons
  • Note operational and weather differences
  • Resolve missing documents and monitoring questions

Can one month establish annual payback?

No. Seasonal generation, consumption and applicable electricity charges need a broader assessment.
