A clear project brief helps a business receive proposals that can be compared fairly. It describes what the organisation needs the system to achieve, which constraints matter and what information suppliers should return.
Describe operations and constraints
Include working days, opening hours, electricity consumption and major loads. Explain whether the business needs energy generation, selected backup capability or both. Identify roof access restrictions, landlord requirements and work periods when installation activities would cause the least disruption.
Define proposal expectations
Ask suppliers to state equipment models, exclusions, design assumptions and the planned handover documents. If more than one option is requested, use the same requirements for each. This makes differences in scope easier to recognise and reduces the temptation to compare proposals only by headline capacity.
State what the business wants the system to do
A shop seeking daytime bill reduction and a workshop seeking outage support have different briefs even if their monthly bills are similar. Write a short requirement such as: reduce purchased electricity during opening hours, with backup limited to billing equipment and lights. List the operating schedule and planned expansion separately. The proposal can then distinguish the generation design from the backup requirement and explain what is outside its scope.

Does a larger business bill always justify a larger array?
