Pakistan’s prosumer framework changed during 2026, and later amendments make publication dates important. This guide explains what to verify before designing a solar financial case rather than treating an old export-rate claim as a current rule for every customer.

Start with the official documents

NEPRA’s legal index publishes the Prosumer Regulations 2026 and subsequent amendments. Read the provisions that apply to your account and agreement, with the electricity provider’s current process. A notification, a draft proposal and an implemented customer arrangement should not be treated as interchangeable documents.

Understand the planning distinction

Under an arrangement that values imports and exports separately, generation used at the property and generation sent to the grid can have different financial effects. Ask a proposal to show those quantities and the rates assumed. Fixed charges, taxes and other bill items must also be considered where applicable.

Check existing agreements individually

Do not assume every existing customer moves to the same treatment as a new applicant. K-Electric publishes guidance distinguishing new arrangements and existing generators, subject to conditions. For your own connection, confirm the agreement, modification history and latest official requirements before changing equipment or relying on projected savings.

Your practical checklist

  • Read current regulations and amendments
  • Confirm your utility and agreement
  • Ask for itemised energy-flow assumptions

What should I confirm before proceeding?

Confirm the account-specific position with the utility; this guide does not promise an export rate or approval.
