A home solar project should start with how the household uses electricity, the condition of the roof and the functions expected during an outage. A package described by panel count alone cannot answer all three questions.
Describe the household routine
Gather bills covering different seasons and note daytime and evening loads. Record cooling, water pumping and any planned new appliances. Ask the designer to consider energy use over time as well as simultaneous demand. Avoid converting a monthly bill directly into one fixed system size without these checks.
Use a dimensioned roof layout
Panel dimensions, spacing, access, shading and mounting affect how much capacity can be installed. There is no single roof-area allowance that fits every module and building. Ask the proposal to show how the actual equipment fits around tanks, drains and existing services.
Define backup and handover expectations
Conventional grid-connected generation does not automatically remain available during an outage. If backup is required, identify the loads and duration and ask for the intended equipment and circuit arrangement. At handover, obtain operating instructions, monitoring access and written support information. Future storage additions should be checked for compatibility before purchase.
Before your next discussion
- Prepare seasonal bills and an appliance list
- Review the actual roof layout
- Confirm backup limits and support records
Can I add a battery later to any home solar system?
Not automatically. The existing equipment and the proposed storage integration need assessment.
