A monitoring app can help an owner understand the installation, but only if the displayed figures are explained. Ask for a demonstration using the actual system at handover rather than relying on screenshots from another project.
Understand what each figure means
Generation, consumption, grid flow and battery state are different measurements. Some installations may not measure every value. Ask which readings come from installed meters and which are estimates or calculated values, so the display is interpreted correctly.
Keep account and service access organised
Use the normal account setup process and retain the support contact. Ask what happens if internet connectivity is lost and how to recognise whether a problem affects monitoring or the installation itself. Avoid sharing passwords in informal messages when reporting a fault.
Learn the meaning of each displayed flow
Ask for a handover demonstration of solar generation, building consumption, grid exchange and battery status where supported. Confirm the date range, unit and last-update time before comparing numbers. Some installations do not measure every flow directly, and missing sensors or incomplete communication can affect what the app can display. Store account access securely and establish who can assist if the nominated account holder changes.
Your practical checklist
- Request a walkthrough of the live display
- Confirm which measurements are available
- Keep account recovery and support details accessible
Can I compare any two app screens directly?
Only when the measurement, period and system boundary are equivalent. Ask how each displayed value is obtained.
