Solar cost is the price of a complete installation, while payback describes how an assessed financial benefit compares with that cost. A useful proposal keeps these questions separate and uses your property’s electricity use rather than a standard saving percentage.
What belongs in the quoted cost
Ask for exact panel, inverter and battery models, mounting, cabling, protection, labour, monitoring and commissioning. Record exclusions such as roof repairs or additional building work. Compare proposals on the same scope before judging the total. A lower equipment-only price is not an installed-project budget.
Build the saving calculation from actual use
Separate electricity used directly at the property from stored energy and any permitted export. Apply the relevant charges and agreed export arrangements to those separate flows. Include the ongoing expenses relevant to the project. A battery may support backup or shift energy into another period; its contribution should be assessed explicitly rather than assumed to have no bill value.
A simple payback illustration
Illustrative example only: a project costing PKR 1,000,000 with assessed annual net savings of PKR 200,000 has a simple payback of five years. This arithmetic is not a current quotation or prediction for your property. Financing, maintenance, replacements, changing use and applicable charges can change the result. Ask for a sensitivity comparison with lower generation or lower self-consumption.
Before your next discussion
- Request an itemised installed scope
- Check consumption and generation assumptions
- Separate backup value from financial returns
Is there one typical payback period for every property?
No. The cost, use pattern, system design and applicable electricity arrangements differ. Request a documented assessment for the actual site.
